Requirements

What you need installed to run tests for Web, iOS, and Android.

Before running your test suites, ensure you have the required tools installed for your target platforms.

To run the zenitest CLI on your machine:

  • Node.js: Version 18 or higher (or Bun / pnpm / yarn)
  • ZeniTest CLI: Installed globally via npm install -g zenitest
  • ZeniTest API Key: Get your API key from the ZeniTest dashboard

To run web browser tests:

  • Automatic Browser Installation: You do not need to manually install or manage browser drivers. When you run a web test, ZeniTest will automatically download and install the required browser (Chromium, Firefox, or WebKit) if it is not already present on your machine.
  • Supported Browsers:
    • Chromium (Default)
    • Google Chrome (Uses system Chrome if installed)
    • Mozilla Firefox
    • WebKit / Safari

Tip: You don’t need WebDriver binaries, ChromeDriver, or Selenium servers. Everything runs out of the box.

To run tests on Android mobile applications:

  • Android Studio & SDK:
    • Install Android Studio.
    • Ensure ANDROID_HOME or ANDROID_SDK_ROOT is set in your environment, with platform-tools (containing adb) added to your PATH.
  • An Active Device:
    • Android Emulator: An AVD (Android Virtual Device) created in Android Studio and running.
    • OR a Physical Device: Connected via USB with USB Debugging enabled in Developer Options.
  • App Binary: Built .apk file (e.g. ./build/app-debug.apk).

To run tests on iOS mobile applications:

  • macOS: An Apple Mac computer running macOS.
  • Xcode:
    • Install Xcode from the Mac App Store.
    • Install Xcode Command Line Tools:
      Terminal window
      xcode-select --install
  • An Active Device:
    • iOS Simulator: Launched via Xcode or Simulator app.
    • OR a Physical iPhone / iPad: Connected to your Mac with Developer Mode enabled.
  • App Binary: Built .app (for Simulators) or .ipa (for Physical Devices).
